According to the state accident report filed by the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, Kaitlyn Harsvick, 20, Woodruff, was southbound on Hwy. 51 just south of the Hwy. K/Swamp Lake Road intersection driving a 2018 Ford Ecosport when the vehicle lost traction on the “slippery, icey” snow-covered road surface and she lost control of the vehicle.
Her Ecosport went into the northbound lane where it was struck by a 2022 Toyota RAV 4 driven by Joshua Wright, 47, Wausau, in what was described in the accident report’s narrative as an “angled collision” hitting the driver’s side of Harsvick’s Ecosport which slid into the east ditch as a result of the collision.
Wright escaped serious injury in the collision, but Hwy. 51 was shut down as firefighters from Nokomis and Cassian turned a stretch of the roadway into a landing zone. Aspirus MedEvac Air 1 arrived and Harsvick was loaded onto the helicopter and flown to Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
