Glen Gilbert Goodlet
Glen Gilbert Goodlet was born May 30, 1933 to Ralph Goodlet and Laurene Lena (Cornell) Goodlet on Washington Island. He spent his early years on the Island until his father’s passing in 1938. A young widow, Lena moved with Glen and his sister, Marcie to Waukegan Ill., with the kids’ summers spent with Island family. Washington Island is special, and Glen was sure to share his love for it and his heritage there with his children. He graduated Waukegan High School and was a life-long learner studying accounting and real estate specifically. He had begun his 30-year career with Johnson Outboard Marine when the Army summoned him to serve in the Korean War; stationed in Stuttgart, Germany. He was accompanied there by his young wife, Barbara, and baby daughter, Geri.
Glen enjoyed retirement at an early age and was drawn to Rhinelander and the relaxed social culture of the Northwoods. He and his treasured companion, Ethel Shaltis, enjoyed traveling the U.S and spending time with Ethel’s family whom he loved very much. He was a tough athlete and contender on the baseball fields, bowling alleys, and especially the golf course with two hole-in-ones to his credit.
Glen aka “Goody” was steadfast about life and lived it fully. He is survived by his children, Geraldine Miller (Garth), Ralph Goodlet, Dan Goodlet (Lori), and Mary Garbett (Tom); 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephew, and cousins. The Shaltis’s add more family numbers to this list as they were certainly very dear to him. Glen was so thankful to have so many friends from the days in Waukegan, OMC, The Island, and his Rhinelander neighbors who dropped in regularly just to visit or get skunked in a game of cribbage!
Remembrances can be made to Glen’s most favorite charities; the American Legion Post 402 and the Bethel Church both located on Washington Island. A celebration of Glen’s life will be held on Washington Island at a later (warmer) date!
