Boys’ basketball: Rhinelander 75, Mosinee 73, 2OT
The Rhinelander High School boys’ basketball team earned a share of its third consecutive GNC title Thursday night with a thrilling 75-73 double overtime victory at Mosinee.
Rhinelander rallied from down 11 midway through the second half and tied it with 15 seconds left in regulation on an Abe Gretzinger layup. Both teams scored five in the first overtime and the Hodags took the lead for good on a Tommy Eades layup midway through the second extra session.
Devon Feck scored a career-high 33 points in the win for Rhinelander while Gretzinger added 19. Brayden Reinke led Mosinee with 26, but was shutout during overtime.
Rhinelander (21-3, 13-1 Great Northern) shared the conference title with Mosinee and will face either Wausau East or Antigo to open the WIAA tournament Friday, March 6.
Wrestling: Rhinelander at WIAA state meet
Rhinelander’s Cassidy Lindner was pinned by Bay Port’s Dakotah Athey in the opening round of the WIAA state girls’ wrestling tournament Thursday at the Kohl Center in Madison.
Lindner (50-7) can still wrestle back to fifth and will Arcadia's Kalyce Sobotta in the consolation bracket Friday morning.
