Bond of $20,000 has been set in Oneida County circuit court for a 37-year-old Minnesota man accused of sexually related crimes.
On Feb. 14, Creighton Mithaugen of Faribault, Minn., was arrested in Rhinelander and charged with one count of attempting 2nd degree sexual assault of a child and one count of using a computer to facilitate a child sex crime. Both are Class C felonies.
If convicted, Mithaugen faces a fine of up to $50,000 or up to 20 years in prison, or both, for the first count, and a fine of up to $100,000, or up to 40 years in prison, or both, for the second count.
In addition, the court would impose a bifurcated sentence, including a term of initial confinement for at least five years, if Mithaugen is convicted.
His next court date will be March 9.
