Blinding angle of sun contributes to Sunday crash in Crescent
By Ardith Carlton of the Northwoods River News
Glare from the late-day sun was a factor in an accident Sunday that temporarily closed a section of U.S. Highway 8 in Crescent.
Brett Glebke, 46, Rhinelander, was traveling west shortly before 5 p.m. when his 2006 Subaru Legacy sedan struck the trailer of a 1990 Ford F700 stake truck legally parked at the side of the road.
The truck had been parked about 760 feet west of Crescent Road by Cody Lind, 32, Rib Lake.
According to the narrative of the crash report, Lind set traffic cones out behind his truck but the sun’s position at that time of day makes it difficult to see other vehicles westbound, and Glebke stated he did not see the truck and cones.
Glebke sustained minor injuries in the crash.
