Strengthening Families Program
Families in the community are invited to join the upcoming Strengthening Families Program (SFP) — this program helps youth and caregivers build stronger relationships and healthier futures. The next session begins March 23 and is open to families with children and teens ages 7–17.
The Strengthening Families Program is an evidence-based program that has been used successfully for more than 30 years across the United States and around the world. It is known for:
• Increasing family communication and connection.
• Building youth life skills and confidence.
• Reducing risk factors related to substance use, behavior challenges, and youth depression.
Classes are held weekly for two hours and include both youth and caregivers.
• Hour one: Parents and youth meet separately for age-appropriate lessons.
• Caregivers learn positive parenting strategies.
• Youth build life skills and refusal skills.
• Hour two: Families come together for guided activities that encourage communication and teamwork.
• Free family dinners during each class.
• Onsite childcare for younger siblings.
The Strengthening Families Program is free of charge, and space is limited. Families are encouraged to register early by contacting Cami Charbarneau at the Oneida County Health Department (OCHD) at 715-369-6185 or visiting OCHD’s Facebook page, where a registration link and QR code are available.
