SDR announces upcoming community education events
According to a press release from the School District of Rhinelander, there are three events for the community to participate in this month including a breathwork and intuitive drawing class, food preservation class and a snowshoe clinic.
Breathwork & Intuitive Drawing: A Journey Inward
Join Brittney for a soft, creative practice that blends the healing power of breath with the freedom of intuitive art. In this class, we’ll begin with grounding breathwork to quiet the mind, settle the nervous system, and awaken inner clarity. As your breath softens, you’ll be guided into a gentle drawing practice — no artistic skill needed, just curiosity! Through simple marks, colors, and shapes, we’ll explore what’s rising within: emotions, insights, intentions, and quiet truths that want space to speak. Your artwork becomes a mirror, a companion, and a reminder of your inner landscape. This class is perfect for anyone seeking stress release, a creative outlet, a deeper connection to self, and a supportive, calming space to simply be. Leave feeling centered, inspired, and a little more in tune with the world inside you.
Date of event is Thursday, Feb. 12, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and is for 6th-graders through adult. It will be in the Rhinelander High School Library, led by certified yoga instructor Brittney Webster and cost $25 per person.
Food Preservation 101: From Harvest to Pantry
Learn the essentials of preserving your garden harvest, farmers market finds, and seasonal favorites year-round. This hands-on class introduces safe methods such as water bath and pressure canning, freezing, and dehydrating. We’ll begin with a collaborative “knowledge share” to identify what you know and what you hope to learn, then tailor the class to the group’s experience level. Throughout the course, you’ll gain confidence in choosing the right preservation method for each food, following safe and tested recipes, selecting appropriate equipment, troubleshooting common issues, and knowing when preserved food isn’t safe. The class welcomes anyone — from beginners to experienced home preservers — who wants to keep food safe, delicious, and ready to enjoy for months to come.
Date of the event is Wednesday, Feb. 18, 5:30 to 7 p.m. and is for 6th-graders through adult. It will be in Rhinelander High School room 112, led by Michole Hegeman and cost $20 per person.
Winter Wander: Snowshoe Clinic
Step into the winter wonderland and discover the joy of snowshoeing! Whether you’ve never tried it or it’s been a while, this clinic is the perfect opportunity to learn one of the simplest and most accessible ways to enjoy the outdoors in winter. Snowshoeing requires minimal equipment — no special boots are necessary! We’ll start with a brief introduction to snowshoe options and how to choose the right pair for you. Then, we’ll hit the scenic CAVOC trails for a guided trek, taking in the beauty of winter landscapes. Along the way, we’ll share tips on other nearby trails you can explore on your own. Snowshoes will be provided, or you’re welcome to bring your own. Embrace the snow, get some fresh air, and have fun on this easy-to-learn winter adventure!
Date of the event is Sunday, Feb. 22, from 1 to 3 p.m. and is for all ages. It will be at the Cedric A. Vig Outdoor Classroom (CAVOC), led by instructor Val Foley and cost $10 per person.
