Daniel “Sketch” Cole Skochil, age 65, of Rhinelander, died on August 6, 2026, in Rhinelander. He was born on September 18, 1960 in Rhinelander, the son of Richard and Nettie (Cole) Skochil. Dan was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Nettie. Survivors include his brother Jeffrey (Barbara) Skochil, Eagan, Minn., nephew David (Ruthie) Skochil, Fairlawn, N.J., niece Elizabeth (Sean Struik) Skochil, Apple Valley, Minn., grand-nephews Richard and Robert Skochil, grand-niece Annie Rose Skochil, Fairlawn, N.J. and companion Deb Kuczmarski, Rhinelander.
Dan grew up in Rhinelander, attended St. Mary’s School and is a graduate of Rhinelander High School. In grade school he played basketball and was an avid tennis player. Dan loved spending time on his pontoon boat. He loved Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen. Dan was the ultimate Packer super fan. Everybody loved Dan. Kind and generous to a fault, he built deep friendships and connections in Rhinelander and beyond. Dan worked at Pat’s Tavern & Grill for years. You may know him from there.
There’s a gaping hole in the world today. Dan made the world better by being here. Those who made the world better for Dan include Deb Kuczmarski, Rosemary Bloom, Mike Greene, Kathy Nofftz, Bruce Carlson and you Rhinelander. May his memory be only for a blessing. Go Pack Go!
A visitation for Dan is set for Thursday, October 15, 2026 from 10 a.m. until noon at the Carlson Funeral Home. Following interment at Northland Memorial Park Cemetery we invite you to a send-off for Dan at Pat’s Tavern & Grill.
