RHS Sports recap: Friday, April 24
Golf: Rhinelander 2nd/8, GNC Meet No. 1
The Rhinelander High School golf team shot 319 and came home second on Friday in the opening round of the GNC tournament at Merrill Golf Club.
The Hodags finished one stroke behind Mosinee for the win while Lakeland finished a stroke behind the Hodags for the runner-up spot.
Grant Gremban tied for second on the day with a 4-over round of 76 and was one of three Hodags in the top 10. Blake Petroff took ninth with a 79 and Hank Kowieski tied for 10th with an 81. Chase West shot 83 and Dylan Shefveland had a 90.
The Hodags will travel to Inshalla Country Club in Tomahawk Tuesday for the second leg of the conference tournament.
Track: RHS girls 1st/7, boys 2nd/7, Eagle Relays
The Rhinelander High School girls’ track team claimed 10 events Friday as it took first place at the Northland Pines Eagle Relays in Eagle River. The Hodag boys won six events and finished second in the meet.
Macy Myers broke her own school record in the pole vault, clearing 11 feet, 6 inches as she won the event individually and helped the Hodags to a team win. Aila Bergman had individual wins in 100- and 300-meter hurdles as well as the triple jump. Libbey Buchmann was tops in both the shot put and discus.
Rhinelander claimed the 4x1,600, 4x100 and 4x400 relays. Rhinelander’s aggregate time in the 300 hurdles was the best and the Hodags won the team portion of all six field events.
On the boys’ side, Ayden Myers won the pole vault and Myles Eagleson was tops in both the long jump and triple jump. Rhinelander claimed the 4x1600, 4x800, 4x200 and 4x400 relays, to go a long with the pole vault and triple jump.
Rhinelander will host the Oneida County Triangular Tuesday at Mike Webster Stadium.
Girls’ soccer: Menomonee Falls 7, Rhinelander 0
The Rhinelander High School girls’ soccer team lost at Menomonee Falls 7-0 Friday night. Further details were not available as of the time of this post.
Rhinelander (5-2-0, 4-1-0-0 Great Northern) faces Cedarburg Saturday morning in Menomonee Falls.
Boys’ tennis: Rhinelander 2-1, De Pere Invite
The Rhinelander High School boys’ tennis team split matches Friday in the De Pere Invite, defeating Pulaski 6-1 and Greenfield 4-3 before falling to De Pere 7-0.
Asher Rivord, Calvin Loomis, Aidan Lueder and Mark Currie swept singles against Pulaski and the Hodags got wins at Nos. 1 and 3 doubles with Danek Koniar/Henry Bonardelli and Brayden Barnhill/Owen Evers.
Lueder came the closest to a win against De Pere, dropping a match tiebreaker at No. 3 singles, 14-12. Individual results from the Greenfield match were not available as of this post
The Hodags (5-2, 2-0 Great Northern) are slated to play three more matches in De Pere Saturday.
