U.S. 8 construction update: Lincoln St. mill and overlay
The U.S. Highway 8 construction project is a Wisconsin Department of Transportation project. All questions should be directed to WisDOT project manager Michelle Guoin at 715-365-5792. Updates can be found at the WisDOT 511 Road Construction website at https://projects.511wi.gov/us8rhinelander/
Project goals
The intersections of State Highway 17 South/W.D. Boyce Drive and County G with U.S. Highway 8 will be reconstructed as single-lane roundabouts. The State Highway 17 North/Germond Road intersection with U.S. 8 will be milled and overlayed.
April 20-24: Lincoln Street Mill and Overlay
In preparation for the U.S. 8 detour route, Lincoln Street from the Oneida Street intersection to the Evergreen Street intersection and from Eisenhower Parkway to Hwy. 17 bypass will be milled and overlayed the week of April 20-24.
Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction and temporary signals will be in place. Please use caution and slow down for construction workers and flaggers. Predicted finish date for the Lincoln Street mill and overlay is April 24, barring unforeseen weather complication.
Starting April 27
During construction, U.S. 8 will be closed and detoured onto State Highway 17 North, Lincoln Street, South Courtney Street, Pelham Street, Arbutus Street and Kemp Street. U.S. 8 will be closed from west of the U.S. 8 and Germond Road intersection to west of the Boyce Drive/State Highway 17 South and will remain closed for the summer.
Temporary pavement will be used at the State Highway 17 South/W.D. Boyce Drive and County G intersections to allow access to the detour route from State Highway 17 South. Temporary pavement and temporary signals will be used at the County G intersection to allow through traffic on County G.
