RHS Sports recap: Saturday, April 11
Softball: Lake Mills 11, Rhinelander 7
A five-run seventh inning capped by a Lily Doerr grand slam proved to be the difference on Saturday as the Rhinelander High School softball team lost to Lake Mills 11-7 on the final day of an invite in Mauston.
The back-and-forth affair was Lake Mills lead 2-0 after an inning and 3-1 after three innings. Rhinelander went up 5-3 after four innings and had a 6-4 lead after five. Lake Mills tied it with two in the sixth before Rhinelander scored one in the bottom of the inning to retake the lead.
The L-Cats pounded 16 hits off Rhinelander starter Aleece Johnson, who didn’t get much help from her defense, which committed seven errors. Only two of the 11 runs Johnson allowed in the loss were earned. She struck out three and walked one.
Maddie Paulson had the only two-hit day for the Hodags while Saige Mitter had a pair of RBIs.
Rhinelander (6-4, 2-0 Great Northern) is scheduled to host Northland Pines on Tuesday.
A full report will be published in Tuesday’s River News.
