Softball: Rhinelander 9, Antigo 7
The Rhinelander High School softball team continued their hot streak with a comeback win over Antigo on Thursday in the Hodag Dome. They ousted the Red Robins with five runs in the bottom of the seventh to walk it off, 9-7.
Ruby Plamann was 2-for-4 and batted in runs six and seven — tying the game on a double in the seventh. Next in the box was Ava Rathbun, who walloped one over the left field fence to bat in Plamann and herself.
In the first, Antigo went scoreless, and the Hodags jumped out to a 1-0 lead. When the Red Robbins batted around the order in the second, they added six to take a five-run lead before Rhinelander answered for 6-2 scoreboard. The Hodags struggled to score in the third and fourth, and Antigo tallied one more to give the Red Robins some insurance at 7-2. In the fifth though, Rhinelander crossed home twice making it 7-4.
Aleece Johnson pitched a complete game, striking out five Red Robins in the win while walking only one. Seven Antigo runs came from nine hits off Johnson.
