James P. Reilly, age 76, of Rhinelander, died April 5, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 28, 1949, in San Francisco, California, the son of Christopher and Margaret (Mulligan) Reilly.
Jim married the love of his life, Cynthia “Cindy” Mackiewicz, September 24, 1988, and together they were blessed with 37 years of marriage, building a life centered on love, family, and unwavering support for one another.
Jim proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from June 28, 1968, to June 27, 1974. His time in the Marines was a source of great pride and reflected his strength, resilience, and deep sense of duty.
Following his military service, Jim worked as a butcher before going on to a career as a commercial chef with Guckenheimer, where he shared his talent and passion for cooking. Most recently in retirement, he worked at St. Mary’s Hospital Rhinelander (now Aspirus), then the cafeteria at Rhinelander High School, where he enjoyed connecting with students and staff and was known for his friendly presence.
Jim will be remembered for his kind heart, sense of humor, and his unwavering faith in Jesus. He had a deep love for his church and found great fulfillment in serving and being part of its community. He found great joy in working with children, many of whom came to see him as a second father and lovingly called him “Papa Jim.”
Jim is survived by his wife, Cindy; his daughter, Jacklynn (Frank); his son, James; and his cherished grandchild, Brantley. He is further survived by his siblings: Christopher “Bud” Reilly (Barbara), William “Bill” Reilly (Nancy), Margaret “Peggy” Kostolefsky (Carl), and Maureen Geneste (Paul). He was preceded in death by his parents Christopher and Margaret “Mull” Reilly; his sister, Mary-Ellen Reilly; and his niece, Kathleen Reilly.
