Darren Scott Koivisto, lovingly known to many as “Lightning,” passed away in Rhinelander at the age of 62.

Son of Jack and Geri Wallin, Darren lived a life defined by laughter, connection, and a deep love for the outdoors. He had a personality that drew people in instantly — Darren truly never met a stranger, only friends he hadn’t yet made.

Darren found his greatest peace and happiness in the Northwoods of Wisconsin, especially around the Rhinelander area he loved so much. Whether he was casting a line on a quiet lake or gathering with friends, he felt most at home surrounded by nature and the people he loved. When he wasn’t outdoors, Darren could often be found enjoying NASCAR, cheering on his favorite drivers and sharing the excitement of race day with the same enthusiasm he brought to everything he loved.

He was a familiar and beloved presence in local establishments, where he enjoyed participating in raffles and sharing laughs with friends and neighbors. Those moments —simple, joyful, and full of camaraderie — were a true reflection of who Darren was.

Known as “Lightning,” a nickname that perfectly captured his spirited nature, Darren lived life with energy, spontaneity, and a spark that couldn’t be dimmed.

Darren’s life was marked by a sense of adventure and a willingness to embrace the unexpected. From wild escapades to everyday moments, he lived fully and with humor, leaving behind a trail of stories that will be told for generations.

Darren will be deeply missed by his sisters and extended family, as well as countless friends and loved ones whose lives he touched with his kindness, humor, and genuine warmth.

A celebration of Darren’s life will be held at Moonlighting on April 18 beginning at 2 p.m. Those attending are encouraged to share a favorite story, cast a line, or spend a quiet moment in nature remembering him.

Though he is gone, Darren’s spirit lives on in the still waters of northern lakes, the laughter of good company, and every story told under the tall pines of the Northwoods.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hildebrand Funeral Home & Cremation Specialists, 24 E. Davenport Street, Rhinelander, Wisconsin, 54501, 715-365-4343. Everyone is invited to leave an online condolence at www.hildebrandrussfh.com
