RHS Sports recap: Tuesday, April 7
Girls’ soccer: Rhinelander 6, Merrill 0
Vivian Lamers had a hat trick, Ella Miljevich scored twice and added two assists and the Rhinelander High School girls’ soccer team defeated Merrill 6-0 Tuesday night to open GNC play at Mike Webster Stadium.
The Hodags lead 2-0 at halftime on goals by Lamers and Miljevich in the 23rd and 30th minutes, respectively. Lamers scored again in the 47th minute and finished her hat trick on a penalty kick in the 80th minute. Gabby Wanta scored in the 64th minute and Miljevich tacked on her second score in the 77th minute.
Rhinelander outshot Merrill 45-3 in the match. Rylee Mickevicius made two saves in the win. Merrill used four different keepers in the match after both its starting and backup keepers left the game injured.
Rhinelander (2-0-0, 1-0-0-0 Great Northern) will host Northland Pines in a 5:30 kickoff Thursday at Mike Webster Stadium.
Softball: Tomahawk at Rhinelander, ppd.
Tuesday’s scheduled softball game between Rhinelander and Tomahawk was postponed due to poor field conditions outside and the Hodag Dome turf being unavailable as the dome hosted voting for the April primary election. The game has been rescheduled for Monday, April 20 in Rhinelander.
The Hodags (5-1, 1-0 Great Northern) will host Antigo on Thursday. That game will start at 4:30 p.m. in the Hodag Dome.
Baseball: Rhinelander at Tomahawk, ppd.
The Rhinelander High School baseball team lost another game to poor field conditions, as its GNC opener at Tomahawk was postponed Tuesday. A make-up date has not been announced.
Rhinelander will try again to open the season Friday in a GNC contest against Antigo. That game has been moved from Stafford Field to the Wisconsin Rapids Sports Complex and will start at noon.
