RHS Sports recap: Saturday, April 4

Track & Field: RHS girls 53rd, boys DNP, WISTCA Indoor State Championships

The Rhinelander High School track team took a handful of athletes to the WISCTA Indoor State Championships in Whitewater on Saturday.

Junior Emeline Hintz was the only Hodag to score in the meet, tying for eighth in the pole vault. Other notable finishes on the girls’ side included Macy Myers, who was 11th in the pole vault and 20th in the 800 meters, Aila Bergman, who was 15th in the 60-meter hurdles and the girls’ 4x400-meter relay of Bergman, Ellie Cummings, Kara Monk and Lucy Eddy, which took 11th. 

The Hodag boys failed to score in the points. Their best finish was a 13th from Ayden Myers in the pole vault. The quartet of Ben Olson, Sam Zwaard, Matthew Haselton and Cyrus Leisure were 16th in the 4x200 and the Hodags took 15th in the 4x400 with Olson, Zwaard, Haselton and Evan Shoeder.

Track & Field: Rhinelander N/A, Point Distance Carnival

A separate group of Rhinelander athletes participated in the Point Distance Carnival on Saturday in Stevens Point, which featured individual races in each of the distance disciplines. 

On the boys’ side, Paul Denis was tops in the 800 taking 35th, Avrom Barrwas 14th in the 1,600 and Michael Brunette finished 39th in the 3,200. On the girls’ side, Gretchen Fiebke was 77th in the 800 and Noelle Mayo finished 18th in the freshman 1,600. 

The Hodag girls’ track team will compete in Wausau on Thursday, with the Hodag boys running in Wausau on Friday.

Baseball: Rhinelander at Appleton East Triangular, ccd.

The Rhinelander High School baseball team’s scheduled season opener at Appleton East was canceled Saturday due to inclement weather. 

The Hodags will try again to open their season Tuesday at Tomahawk.
