RHS Sports recap: Saturday, Sept. 20
Girls’ swim: Rhinelander 13th/19, Waukesha South Invite
The Rhinelander High School girls’ swim team scored a pair of top 10 finishes as it took 13th out of 19 team in the Waukesha South Invite on Saturday.
Ella Heck led the Hodags with a sixth-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke and was on the 200 medley relay that took seventh with Kiley Pooch, Millie Gruett and Vivian Lamers. Lamers was 14th in the 100 freestyle and 15th in the 50 freestyle. The Hodags were 12th in the 400 freestyle relay and 16th in the 200 freestyle relay.
The Hodags are idle until Oct. 2 when they will travel to Ladysmith for a GNC dual.
Cross country: RHS boys 14th/23, RHS girls DNP, Bill Smiley Invitational
Avrom Barr cracked the top 20 in a field of 169 runners, taking 17th in the boys’ Division 1 race at the 69th annual Bill Smiley Invitational in Wausau on Saturday. He was the top-placing finisher for the RHS boys’ cross country team as it took 14th on the day.
Barr completed the 5-kilometer course in a time of 16 minutes, 40.3 seconds. Jackson Weinzatl (78th), Jonathan Campbell (102nd), Michael Brunett (110th) and Grant Gremban (135th) rounded out the top five for the Hodag boys.
The Hodag girls did not qualify for a team score, with only three runners competing in the varsity division. Macy Myers led the way for the team in 36th with a time of 20:53.6. Kara Monk was 45th and Noelle Mayo was 104th in the 148-runner field.
Rhinelander is back in action this coming Thursday at the Three Lakes Invite.
