RHS Sports recap: Thursday, Sept. 18
Girls’ swimming: Rhinelander 121, Lakeland 49
The Rhinelander High School girls’ swim team dominated a battle of GNC unbeatens, winning all 11 events in a 121-49 victory over Lakeland at the Heck Family Community Pool.
The Hodag had seven different winners on the night. Juniors Rylee Mickevicius and Vivian Lamers won four events each. Mickevicius took the 500-yard freestyle and the 100 backstroke while Lamers took the 200 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke. Both were on the winning 200 medley relay squad, Mickevicius was on the winning 400 freestyle really and Lamers was on the 200 freestyle relay.
Emma Houg won the 200 freestyle, June Chiamulera won the 50 freestyle, Ella Heck took the 100 butterfly and Millie Gruett claimed the 100 freestyle.
Rhinelander (5-0 Great Northern) heads to Waukesha for an invite on Saturday.
Girls’ tennis: Rhinelander 5, Lakeland 2
The Rhinelander High School girls’ tennis team completed the GNC dual meet schedule with a 5-2 win over Lakeland at the RHS tennis courts on Thursday.
The Hodags swept doubles with the teams of Maddie Legrey/Teagan Turcotte, Eva Heck/Willow VanDenHeuvel and Willow Mutter/Addy Currie. Taylor McKinney and Lucy Evers were straight-set winners at Nos. 3 and 4 singles.
The Hodags finished the conference dual meet season 7-1 and were awaiting to see the result of Thursday’s Pacelli-Medford match to see where it will be positioned entering next Thursday’s GNC tournament in Rhinelander.
Boys’ soccer: Northland Pines 7, Rhinelander 1
The Rhinelander High School boys’ soccer team scored its first goal of the season Thursday, but it wasn’t enough as the Hodags fell to the Eagles 7-1 in Eagle River.
Owen Evers converted a penalty kick for the Hodags in the second half of the match. Rhinelander trailed 4-0 at halftime. Further stats from the game were unavailable as of the time of this post.
Rhinelander (0-8-1, 0-4-1-0 GNC) hosts Antigo on Tuesday.
Volleyball: Rhinelander 0-2, Rhinelander Triangular
The Rhinelander High School volleyball team dropped both of its matches Thursday in a home triangular, falling to Prentice 25-18, 25-22, 18-25 and Amherst 25-15, 25-22, 25-10.
Olivia Ruetz paced Rhinelander with nine kills. Tori Stella had seven kills and 21 digs, Kayla Skubal had 31 digs and four aces and Kylie Treder had 25 assists.
Rhinelander (1-21, 0-3 Great Northern) is scheduled to travel to Medford on Friday.
Girls’ golf: Wausau East/West 212, Rhinelander 252
The Rhinelander High School girls’ golf team fell in a dual meet against Wausau East/West 212-252 Thursday at Trapp River Golf Course in Wausau.
Nevaeh Anderson took medallist honors, shooting 46 on the day. Ella Miljevich shot 64, Hayley Schiek shot 69 and Lindsey Hoerchler shot 73.
The Hodags will be back in action Monday in an 18-hole match in Burlington.
