RHS Sports recap: Tuesday, Sept. 16
Girls’ tennis: Rhinelander 7, Marshfield Columbus 0
The Rhinelander High School girls’ tennis team gained ground in the Great Northern Conference race, defeating Marshfield Columbus 7-0 Tuesday in Marshfield.
The Hodags swept singles play, including a match tiebreak win for Taylor McKinney at No. 2 singles. Annie Vander Galien won the No. 1 flight, Lucy Evers took the third flight and Jordan Manske received a forfeit win at No. 4.
The doubles teams of Teagan Turcotte/Maddie Legrey, Eva Heck/Willow VanDenHeuvel and Willow Mutter/Addy Currie all won in straight sets.
With Medford idle on Tuesday, the Hodags closed within four points of the Raiders for the conference lead with one dual meet remaining. Rhinelander hosts Lakeland on Thursday while Medford entertains Pacelli.
Boys’ soccer: Merrill 3, Rhinelander 0
The Rhinelander High School boys’ soccer team fell to Merrill 3-0 Tuesday at Mike Webster Stadium in GNC play.
The Hodags conceded a penalty kick goal in the 10th minute and allowed another goal with eight seconds remaining in the half to fall behind 2-0 at the break. The Bluejays tacked on one more goal in the 56th minute.
Shots were 19-11 in favor of the the Bluejays, who also had a 10-2 edge in shots on goal. Caden Ehrhardt made seven saves in the loss.
Rhinelander (0-7-1, 0-3-1-0 Great Northern) travels to Northland Pines Thursday.
Volleyball: Lakeland 3, Rhinelander 0
The RHS volleyball team lost in straight sets to Lakeland 25-17, 25-17, 25-11 Thursday at the Jim Miazga Community Gymnasium.
Tori Stella led the Hodags with four kills and added seven digs while, Kylie Treder had 10 assists and Kayla Skubal led the team with nine digs.
Rhinelander (1-19, 0-3 Great Northern) hosts a triangular against Amherst and Prentice on Thursday.
