League of Women Voters local watch party and webinar on state constitutional amendments
The League of Women Voters of the Northwoods invites community members to a timely webinar:
“Wisconsin Constitutional Amendments: Consequences and Better Practices” on Thursday, Sept. 18, 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Rhinelander District Library, 106 North Stevens Street.
We will explore how constitutional amendments can be used more effectively to uphold constitutional principles in order to strengthen democracy. The speakers are from the Brennan Center for Justice, Law Forward, Wisconsin Justice Institute, and EXPO (Ex-Incarcerated People Organizing). A moderated discussion will follow the webinar.
In 2024-25, Wisconsin voters approved four constitutional amendments. While these measures are now part of the state constitution, their broader meaning and possible unintended consequences were not fully explained to the public. In some cases, the ballot wording was abbreviated in ways that may have been unclear or even misleading. With additional proposed amendments expected, it is more important than ever for voters to understand the process and its impact on democratic governance.
If you plan to attend the watch party in person please RSVP to [email protected]. Virtual option: Register to watch remotely at: my.lwv.org/wisconsin/event/wisconsins-constitutional-amendments-consequences-and-better-practices-webinar.
