A reader’s open letter to Senator Johnson
To the Editor:
I am very disappointed Congress is not taking a stand to support the American people or the US Constitution. The president is charged with upholding the laws passed by Congress. President Trump is declaring ‘national emergencies’ to go around Congress and the Courts.
The President is firing officials who present facts not supporting his narrative! Our founders expected different opinions, dissent and debate. A judge striking down a Presidential order is not treason. A President making statements contrary to known facts does not change facts or history.
Government sponsored research at universities is being shut down. Very promising vaccine research against cancer is being shut down. America will lose leadership in health and industry without this support — and the American talent these universities are training. Our industry needs the advancements from research to keep us the economic powerhouse we are.
The economy is slowing; companies are not willing to invest with economic uncertainty over tariffs and trade policies — which should be established by congress! Workplace raids are detaining tax paying immigrants doing dirty, dangerous, and demeaning jobs our citizens don’t want. Farm and food production is decreasing. Inflation is not coming down as promised.
Revolutionary War hero Patric Henry opposed adoption of the Constitution because he was afraid a powerful President would assume powers not granted to him. Supporters of the Constitution warned against political parties, concerned members would put party ahead of country.
You are not responding to my letters, but I really want to know what you are doing to restore Congress as a co-equal branch of government — the branch of government establishing policy.
