Fall educational and social events for seniors with Learning in Retirement Program

Beginning Sept. 10, Nicolet College’s long-running Learning in Retirement Program will feature an exciting fall 2025 lineup of exciting educational and social opportunities for seniors.

“There is something new for everyone, with topics that focus on nature, history, health, travel, art, and more,” says LIR President Brenda Peltier. “We’re excited to meet new and returning members for another season of learning, connection, and discovery!”

LIR members are invited to discover a variety of offerings in the fall lineup including floor curling at the Hodag Dome and “The Man Behind the Creation of the Twinkie,” about the history of the iconic Depression-era treat as told by the creator’s grandson, John McConachie. Meet Mildred “Tinker” Schuman, an Ojibwe elder from the Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa of Northern Wisconsin, who organized “Water Way Walks” in Vilas County.

The popular Ced Vig Nature Series, in collaboration with LIR, returns with expert-led presentations at Nicolet College such as “The Pelican River Forest Project,” “Aquatic Invasive Species in Oneida County,” “Dragons and Damsels of Wisconsin,” and “Northwoods Fisheries.” Sessions will be offered in person at Nicolet College and virtually via Zoom.

Beyond the classroom, members can enjoy unique excursions and social events, including a walkthrough of quilts and nature photography exhibits at ArtStart, a field trip to the Hodag Dome, and the “Lunch Bunch,” offering members the chance to connect over great food while exploring area restaurants.

LIR at Nicolet College is a membership-based program providing short-term learning opportunities for retired and semi-retired individuals. For the annual membership fee of just $50, members can join anytime and gain access to a variety of engaging classes and events each fall and spring.
