RHS sports recap: Tuesday, Sept. 2

Girls’ tennis: Rhinelander 7, Phillips 0

The Rhinelander High School girls’ tennis team cruised to a 7-0 win over Phillips in Great Northern Conference play on the road Tuesday.

Rhinelander dropped a total of four games in the seven contested matches. Annie Vander Galien, Jordan Manske, Taylor McKinney and Lucy Evers were winners in singles. Maddie Legrey/Teagan Turcotte, Eva Heck/Willow VanDenHeuvel and Willow Mutter/Addy Currie were winners in doubles. 

The Hodags (9-7, 3-1 Great Northern) host Medford on Thursday.

Cross country: RHS boys 4th/10, girls 4th/8, Mosinee Invite

Rhinelander junior Avrom Barr won the boys’ division Mosinee Invite cross country race at Nine Mile Forest in Wausau on Tuesday and the Hodag boys finished fourth out of 10 qualifying teams overall.

Barr crossed the line in a time of 17 minutes, 42 seconds, edging Edgar’s Cade Koch for the win by roughly a second. Michael Brunette (19th, 19:56), Jonathan Campbell (21st, 20:06), Matthew Wood (32nd, 20:56) and Grant Gremban (35th, 21:05) rounded out the Hodag top five.

On the girls’ side, the Hodags finished fourth out of eight complete teams. Macy Myers led the way with a fourth-place finish (21:17), Kara Monk was 13th (23:21), Noelle Mayo took 24th (24:38), Gabby Wanta was 29th (25:11) and Adeline Olson was 58th (29:59).

Rhinelander is back in action Sept. 9 at the Marshfield Invite. 

Boys’ soccer: Three Lakes 2, Rhinelander 0

The RHS boys’ soccer team picked up a non-conference game with Three Lakes on Tuesday, falling to the Bluejays 2-0 at Mike Webster Stadium. 

Details from the contest were not available as of the time of this post. 

Rhinelander (0-2-0, 0-0-0-0 Great Northern) will host Lakeland on Thursday.
