Y celebrates Veterans Day with special presentation
The Beck Family YMCA, Rhinelander, is holding its monthly Forever Learning on Wednesday, Nov. 5 at noon at the Y. To celebrate Veterans Day, Jill Geoffroy will be the guest speaker. She received her commission in the U.S. Army in 1991 and retired at the rank of major in 2013.
Throughout her military career she served in various positions to include aeromedical evacuation pilot, platoon leader, unit commander, safety officer, and aviation liaison officer. She holds a bachelor’s degree from UW-LaCrosse and a master’s degree in management from Cardinal Stritch University. She served both on active duty and in the Wisconsin Army National Guard and has over 1,500 hours of flight time in the UH-1 Huey and UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters. Her inspiring story will highlight the service of many of our veterans. Veterans in the community are welcome to attend. In addition, Tammy Javenkoski, Oneida veterans service officer, will be in attendance to talk about the many services offered to veterans in our community.
This free program is offered through the Y’s ForeverWell educational programs but is open to anyone in the community. Join the group for a potluck lunch or bring your own bag lunch to the presentation. The theme for the potluck is “baked potato.” The Y will provide the potato and beverage. Guests are asked to bring a potato topping, side dish or dessert. No registration is required. For more information, call Marilyn at 715-362-9622 ext 118.
