RHS alum Denis earns WIAC Athlete of the Week honors

Shawn Denis, a 2025 Rhinelander High School graduate, and freshman on the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point men’s swimming and diving team was named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Kwik Trip Athlete of the Week in that sport for Oct. 20-26, the conference announced on Tuesday. 

Denis won both the 100-yard breaststroke and 100 butterfly with times of 59.55 seconds and 53.29 seconds, respectively, at the Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.)/Minnesota Mankato State (Minn.) Triangular on Oct. 25. It was the opening meet of the season for UWSP.

The Pointer men and women are back in action Friday against UW-Green Bay, a team that features a pair of RHS alums — Zacha King and Lily Thorsen. 

Outlawz PGA Premier Girls Fastpitch Tournament in Rhinelander Nov. 7-9

The Outlawz PGA Premier Girls Fastpitch Tournament is Nov. 7-9 at the Hodag Dome in Rhinelander. The event will support Rhinelander Area Food Pantry. 

Everyone is encouraged to check out the action at the Outlawz PGA Premier Girls Fastpitch Tournament. 

This will be an opportunity for everyone to enjoy watching outstanding ball games and also donate food items that will go to the Rhinelander Area Food Pantry. Bins will be located in the lobby of the Hodag Dome to collect packaged, non-perishable foods but no glass please.
