Burke reports on student community service initiatives
Rhinelander School District superintendent Eric Burke said he tried to highlight the amount of community service the district’s students are involved with at the school board’s Oct. 20 meeting.
“District-wide, but especially at the high school,” he told The Northwoods River News on Oct. 21, noting there was a “community service day” to be held in the afternoon on Wednesday. “Where the students are going out, they have all these places in the community, but where they’re doing service. And then on top of that, we have key club and other groups that are doing this throughout the year.”
Burke indicated he thinks it’s “great” how students are “doing incredible things for others in our community.”
Additionally, he said he spoke about the school’s construction project.
Burke referred the River News to a press release he issued.
According to the press release, the new autos lab, construction lab and classroom spaces are on track to be done by Christmas.
Classes, the press release says, will be moved into those new spaces for this school year’s second semester.
“The entire high school construction project remains on schedule for completion in August 2026,” the press release states.
As far as James Williams Middle School goes, according to the press release, the renovation work for special education, main office areas, tech ed labs, art rooms, music spaces and family and consumer education room will be done by Thanksgiving next month.
Voters approved a $26 million referendum in April of last year for the wide-ranging construction project. Work for the project began in late February and early March of this year.
