RHS Sports recap: Saturday, Oct. 18

Cross country: RHS boys 2nd/8, girls 3rd/8, GNC Meet

The Rhinelander High School cross country team had eight all-conference runners Saturday as it fared well in the Great Northern Conference meet held at Rhinelander’s Northwood Golf Club.

Junior Avrom Barr took home the GNC individual boys’ title for Rhinelander, covering the 5-kilometer course in 17 minutes, 1.6 seconds. He and teammate Jackson Weinzatl (fifth) earned first-team all-conference honors as the Hodags finished as runners up in the conference standings, only four points behind Lakeland. Jonathan Campbell and Michael Brunette finished 11th and 12th to earn second-team honors. Grant Gremban and Ayden Myers received honorable mention with finishes of 16th and 21st. 

The Hodag girls were third on the day and had a pair of all-conference honorees. Macy Myers finished fourth and Kara Monk took sixth. 

WIAA sectionals for the Hodags takes place this coming Friday in Merrill.
