RHS Sports recap: Saturday, Oct. 11
Volleyball: Rhinelander 8th/8, GNC Tournament
The Rhinelander High School volleyball team dropped all three of its matches Saturday as it took last in the Great Northern Conference tournament in Eagle River.
Coming in as the No. 8 seed, the Hodags dropped their opener to top-seeded Mosinee 25-12, 25-15, 25-13, lost to No. 5 Northland Pines in the consolation semifinals 25-13, 25-7, 25-11 and No. 7 Antigo in the seventh-place match 25-13, 25-14, 26-24.
Olivia Ruetz led Rhinelander with 11 kills while Ellie Cummings and Vayda Ives had seven each. Kylie Treder had 14 assists, Kayla Skubal had 29 did and Cassidy Lindner added six kills, 25 digs and five aces.
Rhinelander (2-32, 0-7 Great Northern) will close out the regular season at home Monday against Hurley.
Cross country: RHS boys 1st/9, girls 3rd/6, Tomahawk Invite
The Rhinelander High School boys’ cross country team bested the rest of the Great Northern Conference, plus Crandon, to win the nine-team Hatchet Invite in Tomahawk on Saturday. The Hodag girls finished third out of six qualifying teams.
Avrom Barr took the boys’ race, crossing the line in 16 minutes, 20.6 seconds. Jackson Weinzatl came home fifth for Rhinelander, Jonathan Campbell was seventh, Michael Brunette was 13th and Ayden Myers was 24th.
On the girls’ side, Macy Myers set a new 5,000-meter school record, finishing third on the day with a time of 19:30.4. Kara Monk came home sixth, Noelle Mayo was 23rd, Gabby Wanta finished 24th and Morgan Cahee was 31st.
The Hodags will host the Great Northern Conference meet this coming Saturday at Northwood Golf Club.
