RHS sports recap: Friday, Oct. 10

Football: Medford 42, Rhinelander 12

The Rhinelander High School football team struggled to slow down Medford’s ground game Friday night in a 42-12 homecoming loss at Mike Webster Stadium.

The Raiders scored on four of their first five possessions to lead 30-0 at halftime and tacked on two more scored in the third quarters. Medford rushed for 275 yards on the night and had a pair of 100-yard rushers, including Carson Ingersoll, who had 110 yards and four scores.

The Hodags scored twice in the fourth quarter. Ben Olson scored on a seven-yard run and Evan Shoeder caught a 15-yard pass from Abe Gretzinger.

Cyrus Leisure led Rhienlander with 81 yards on 12 carries. Gretzinger was 10 of 20 passing for 80 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. Rowan Wiczek caught six passes for 58 yards.

Rhinelander (3-5, 2-4 Great Northern) likely faces a must-win game next Friday at Merrill to have a chance to make the WIAA playoffs.
