Dennis Charles Hurst 77, of Rhinelander, passed away peacefully at Marshfield Medical Center-Weston on October 3, 2025. Dennis was born on October 26, 1947, to Ralph and Helen (Kaiser) Hurst, at home on his grandma’s farm. After his schooling he served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968 and was stationed in Vietnam during Tet. Upon his honorable discharge he married the love of his life, Cheryl Reichert Hurst. They were blessed with 55 years of marriage. Dennis was an award winning licensed realtor for over 45 years. He marketed homes in southern Wisconsin before moving to the Northwoods where he was with Coldwell Banker Mulleady Realtors, Inc. until his retirement in 2024.
Dennis will fondly be remembered as a kind, gentle man who loved his family. He had a wicked sense of humor and a ready smile that could light up a room. He strove to be the best at whatever he did and was honest almost to a fault. He loved his country and was proud of his service. He was very active in the VFW and conducted the Memorial Day services for many years. Dennis was a man of simple faith and quiet strength who will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife Cheryl (Cheri), son Christopher (Jody) Hurst, and many cherished nieces and nephews. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Robert and Kenneth Hurst, and sister Darlene Tollakson; niece Lynette Hurst, and nephew Gary Tollakson; and great-nephews Kenny Hurst and Matthis Koch.
“Death ends a life, not a relationship. All the love you created is still there. All the memories are still there. You live on — in the hearts of everyone you have touched and nurtured while you were here.” Mitch Albom
Memorial services for Dennis will be held on Friday, Oct. 17 at 9 a.m. at the Northlife Church on Boyce Drive in Rhinelander. Interment will follow later that day in the Northwoods National Cemetery.
