Thomas William Ives, 85, of Rhinelander, passed away peacefully at home on September 30, 2025.
Born in Merrill, Tom moved to Rhinelander during his elementary school years and graduated from Rhinelander High School in 1958. He retired from Rhinelander Paper Mill after 35 years and enjoyed a long retirement. He married the former Nancy Robinson on April 18, 1959 and they were blessed with 66 years of marriage. He was also a longtime member of the Zion Lutheran Church.
A true outdoorsman, Tom loved hunting many types of game, fishing, and picking wild rice, spending as many days as possible in nature. Whether tracking wildlife or watching it quietly, Tom deeply appreciated the beauty of the natural world. He also enjoyed sharing his adventures — his stories, often told with humor and vivid detail, will be fondly remembered by all who heard them.
Tom is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy Ives; his son Mitchell Ives (Renee Platek) daughters Robin Hendrickson (Daniel) and Mary Marquardt (Shawn); his grandchildren: Ben Ives, Beth Ives, Sarah Hendrickson, Mitchell Ives, Christina Ives, and Semra Marquardt; and seven great-grandchildren: Hailey, Vayda, Layla and Owen Ives, Dawson Sachse, Mason, and Grace Delaney. He was preceded in death by his son Michael Ives and his parents, Marcella and James Ives.
Tom will be remembered for his quiet strength, quick wit, and deep love of the outdoors. His presence will be greatly missed and warmly remembered.
Visitation for Tom will be held on Thursday, Oct. 9, from 10 a.m. to noon, with memorial services following at noon, all at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. Reverend Karl Schultz will be officiating. You may leave your private condolences for the Ives family at www.carlsonfh.com. The Carlson Funeral Home, 715-369-1414, is serving the Ives family.
