Football: Mosinee 41, Rhinelander 14
Mosinee scored three times in the final four minutes of the third quarter Friday as it pulled away to a 41-14 victory over Rhinelander in GNC football play in Mosinee.
After failing to scored from inside the red zone in each of its opening two drives, the Hodags got within 14-7 on a Ben Olson touchdown midway through the third quarter, but Rhinelander’s defense couldn’t slow down Mosinee quarterback Treve Stoffel, who rushed for 165 yards and two scores, and threw for another 138 yards and a touchdown.
Carter Fandrey added 98 yards and two touchdowns in the ground for Mosinee and the Indians got a 36-yard interception return for a touchdown by Mitchell Michlig.
Abe Gretzinger threw three interceptions in the game for Rhinelander, as he finished 9 of 16 for 102 yards. Rowan Wiczek caught five passes for 73 yards.
Rhinelander lost running back Cyrus Leisure (knee) and lineman Caden Sieker (shoulder) to injury during the game and neither returned to the contest.
Rhinelander (3-4, 2-3 Great Northern) hosts Medford this coming Friday.
