Gwendolyn “Gwen” Wanty, 68, of Rhinelander, died peacefully on November 19, 2025, surrounded by family at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. She was born on May 25th, 1957, the daughter of Myron and Marie Gehrig.

Gwen was raised in the Rhinelander area and graduated in 1975 from Rhinelander High School. She later obtained her associate’s degree in accounting and coding from Nicolet Technical College, she went on to work for Triumph Twist Drill, and then at the Rhinelander hospital for 25-plus years until she retired to work for her son at GEI Accounting, she retired again in 2023. 

Gwen enjoyed spending time with her family and friends socializing. She loved spending time at the cabin, camping with her friends, boating, going for drives, Packer games. Gwen was a kindhearted woman and cared deeply for everyone in her life. She was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Parish.

Gwen is survived by her son, Ryan, daughter-in-law, Heather; three stepchildren, Jimmy (Becky), Kathy, Tammy (Tim); brothers, Brian (Nancy) Gehrig, Brock (Victoria) Gehrig; three grandsons, Grady, Dillon and Bradley; stepgrandchildren; nieces and nephews, Ben (Eva), Alicia (Ian), Brett and Katrina (Kyle); stepgreat-grandchildren; and great-nieces and nephews, Connor, Caleb, Reese, and Jacob, Adeline and Amelia. 

She was preceded in death by her husband James Wanty Sr.; her parents Myron and Marie Gehrig; her nephew Chad Gehrig; and many other relatives and friends. 

The visitation for Gwen will be held at Hildebrand Funeral Home located at 24 E. Davenport Street, in Rhinelander, on Wednesday, Nov. 26, from 10 a.m. until the 1:30 p.m. service. Fr. Chris Kemp will officiate.

Following the service there will be a procession to Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Cemetery for the Committal Service.

The family would like to thank Aspirus Health Care team members from both Rhinelander and Wausau for our mother’s excellent care over the last month.
