Northwoods Honor Guard to hold Veterans Day observance at Davenport St. Bridge

The Northwoods Honor Guard will hold a brief Veterans Day observance Tuesday, Nov. 11, at the Davenport Street Bridge in Rhinelander.

Jim Barber of the Honor Guard said the city will close the bridge for the duration of the ceremony, which begins at 10:45 a.m.

Wisconsin State Rep. Rob Swearingen is scheduled to speak. At 11 a.m., the Honor Guard will perform a rifle volley following the tolling of bells to mark the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month — the moment the World War I armistice was signed in 1918. The holiday was known as Armistice Day until 1954.
