Carol Ann Jacobson

The benevolent life of Carol Jacobson ended on November 1, 2025. The daughter of Henry and Harriet (Charters) LaPrairie, Carol was born in Bay City, Mich. on March 26, 1938.

Carol and family moved to Rhinelander, Wisconsin in 1967 where she lived before moving closer to family in Hampstead, North Carolina in 2015, following her husband’s (Douglas) death.

Carol’s formative years where shaped living on Linn Street in Bay City, Mich. During these years neighbors and families were close knit, and it was in this neighborhood, Carol was to meet her future husband, Doug Jacobson. Carol’s family attended church just a few blocks down Linn Street and her participation in youth ministry established her cornerstone of faith in Jesus — a faith she held closely through her years. She had a beautiful voice and through her teen years became quite an entertainer, singing and dancing at local restaurants, school pageants and plays, and even performing for community events in Rhinelander. However, as the years passed and constraints of time pressed, raising a family became her focus and passion. She was a caring mother for daughter Glenda (Mike) Nadeau, Matthew Jacobson, and Jonathan (Kristel) Jacobson. Over the years, she volunteered at school events and ensured the kids received a foundation of faith while still cooking, cleaning, and helping manage the family hobby farm. For years, she voraciously read books of wide ranges of genres that helped shaped her intellect and broad vocabulary.

In time Carol and Doug were active about the community participating in bowling and golf leagues, playing bridge with friends, active members of the Lioness and Lions clubs and other civic events. Mom worked part time at McCord elementary school prior to accepting a position at the Human Services Center and before culminating her career with 10 years with the U.S. Forest Service in the genetics lab.

Carol was tough and resilient but ever so joyful in mind with old-time singsong tunes she would spontaneously sing, then offer clever quips and jokes as follow up. She was insightful, caring, and a terrific listener and problem solver and always offered support and encouragement for the endeavors of family and friends. She also had a love of dogs and a soft spot in her heart for our furry companions.

She will be greatly missed by those left behind including: her brother Bob (MaryEllen) LaPrairie, her children (mentioned above), eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Carol is preceded in death by her parents Henry and Harriet LaPrairie and her husband, Douglas E. Jacobson.

In the near future there will be a private memorial for family members. The family is appreciative for the tremendous help, support, and love shown by the caregivers from Woodbury Wellness and Gentiva Hospice in Hampstead, N.C.
