My name is Jan “Janice” Leschke and I died on October 29, 2025. I decided to write my own obituary because usually obituaries are written by family that gather together and list every minor accomplishment. The truth, or my version of it is this: I just tried to do the best I could. Sometimes I succeeded, most of the time I failed, but I tried. For all my crazy comments, my jokes and complaints, I really did love people. I didn't always do the right thing or say the right thing, and when you come to the end of your life, those are the things you really regret. Forgive people in your life; holding on to anger only hurts you, not them.
I think that by writing my own obituary, I get a chance to say thank you to all the people who helped me along the way. Those who loved me, assisted me, cared for me, laughed with me, and taught me things so that I could have a wonderful, happy life. I was so lucky to have known all of you; that is what made my life worthwhile.
If you think of me, and would like to do something in honor of my memory, please do this: volunteer, write a letter to someone and tell them how they have had a positive effect on your life, stop at all the lemonade stands run by kids, make someone smile, love each other and be kind.
I've lived a good life, a full life and I have gotten to the end of that life. When we lose someone we love, we must learn not to live without them, but to live with the love they left behind. One day you are going to hug your last hug, kiss your last kiss and hear someone's voice for the last time, but you never know when that last time will be, so live every day as if it were the last time you will be with the person you love.
I am survived by my husband Jim, our son Dave (Terry), our daughter Amy (Scott) Kahle, grandsons, AJ (Catherine), Nathan and Dan, great grandchildren Isabel and Rowan, two sisters, one special nephew and many nephews and nieces. I was preceded in death by my parents Milton and Verona Hansen. LYT
The family has held a private gathering. Jan was proud of her Danish heritage and her grandsons. If you wish to honor Jan with a memorial we recommend WXPR, Wild Instincts or Warm for Winter.
You may leave your private condolences for the Leschke family at www.carlsonfh.com. The Carlson Funeral Home, 715-369-1414, is handling the arrangements for the family.
