Track: RHS girls 7th/35, boys T-18th/35, WIAA Sectionals
The Rhinelander High School track team automatically qualified five entries for the WIAA Division 2 state meet Friday in a sectional competition in Durand.
Junior Aila Bergman and sophomore Macy Myers qualified in two events. Bergman took third in the 300-hurdles in a school-record time of 45.13 seconds while Myers was the runner-up in the pole vault (11 feet). Both were also on the the state-qualifying 4x400 relay with sophomore Lucy Eddy and senior Lexi Bishop. They smashed a school record in a runner-up finish (4:03.66).
Bishop also advanced in the 4x100 with sophomore Shyanne Hueckstaedt, junior Violet Biolo and freshman Ellie Cummings in a school-record time of 50.16 seconds.
It was also confirmed Saturday that the Hodag girls' 4x200 relay of Biolo, Eddy, Myers and Bishop qualified for state. Though they placed sixth at sectionals, their school-record time of 1:46.26 was among the 10-fastest times overall in D2, earning an extra qualifying spot for the state meet.
On the boys’ side, Truman Lamers tied for second in the high jump and advanced to state.
The state track meet begins next Friday in La Crosse.
