JWMS girls 3rd, boys 4th at conference meet

The James Williams Middle School track team ended its season Monday with the Tomahawk GNC Middle School Invitational. The 10-team meet featured the middle schools that feed into the current seven high schools of the Great Northern Conference, plus Merrill’s Prairie River Middle School as Merrill gets set to join the GNC as a chartered member in the 2025-26 school year. 

The Hodag girls took third in the meet, led by seventh-grader Olivia Eades, who won the 400-meter dash, took second in the 100 and was third in the 200. Isabelle Gray was the runner-up in both the 100 and 200 hurdles, Grace Delaney took second in the discus, MaKenzy Mess was third in the 100 hurdles and fourth in the triple jump. Katie Hazelton was fourth in the 200 hurdles, Hailey Jackson was fifth in the 100 hurdles and Brooke Rudis took fifth in the discus. Rhinelander was third in the 4x200 and fourth in the 4x100.

The Hodag boys finished fourth in the meet, led by Elias Simonsen, who won the discus and was runner-up in the shot put. Chris Kanitz took second in both the 110 and 200 hurdles. Dawson Sachse took fourth in the 200 hurdles, Elias Puza was fifth in the 100 and Channing Waksmonski took fifth in the triple jump. Rhinelander was second in the 4x400 and 4x800, third in the 4x100 and fourth in the 4x200.
