Carol Jean Ramsey

Carol Jean Ramsey, a beloved resident of Rhinelander, passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 7, 2025, at the age of 77. Born in Rhinelander on February 1, 1948, to James R. Coates and Alberta Johnson Coates, Carol’s kind heart and fun-loving spirit endeared her to many.

A true social butterfly, Carol cherished her friendships and loved to laugh and dance at gatherings. She enjoyed cheering on the Green Bay Packers with her sister Debbie. In her younger years, she was active in softball and pool leagues in Rhinelander and Bayfield.

In the early 1990s, Carol moved to Bayfield and raised her children until she returned to her cherished hometown of Rhinelander, where she married Gary Ramsey on February 14, 2007. Together, they shared 18 wonderful years filled with camping trips, casino visits, and travels to Texas to see his son, Dr. Patrick Ramsey (Sarah), and his family. Their shared Irish heritage was a source of much joy.

Carol is survived by her loving husband, Gary Ramsey; her children, Christina Peterson, Renae Eades, Scott Eades, Brian Blattler, and Missy Lee; her step-children, Patrick Ramsey and Shawn Ramsey; her sisters, Debbie Coates, Helen Petersdorf, and Betty Gille; 16 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by many family members, her parents and one grandchild, Tyler Vinzant.

A celebration of Carol’s life will be held on Sunday, July 20, at Hodag Park in Rhinelander from 1 to 4 p.m. In keeping with her spirit, the family suggests that those who knew and loved her take a moment to share a toast in her memory.
