Join us for a screening and discussion of the documentary, ‘Crip Camp: A Disability Revolution’
Crip Camp is an inspiring documentary that traces the journey of teenagers with disabilities from Camp Jened, a groundbreaking summer camp in the 1970s, to their pivotal role in the disability rights movement. Through powerful personal stories, the film explores the fight for equality that led to the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
The League of Women Voters believes in the equality of opportunity, and that the federal government shares with other levels of government the responsibility to provide equality of opportunity for education, employment and housing for all persons in the US regardless of their race, color, gender, religion, national origin, age, sexual orientation, or disability.
On May 20, the League of Women Voters of the Northwoods (LWVNOW) will host a screening of the movie, Crip Camp: A Disability Revolution at the Newbold Community Center, 4608 Apperson Drive (on County Highway 47) from 6 to 9 p.m. The public is always welcome.
Following the screening, members of LWVNOW will host a discussion on the film and the ongoing work toward inclusion and accessibility. We’ll explore actions individuals, our local League chapter, and the broader community can take to build a more inclusive society.
All are welcome — please join us on May 20, 6 to 9 p.m. at the Newbold Community Center for this important conversation!
