Sue Ann Bullard, 71, of Rhinelander, died on May 9, 2025, at the Aspirus Rhinelander Hospital. She was born on April 17, 1954, in Springfield, Ill., the daughter of Dennis and Wanda (Ferrand) Wise. She moved to Rhinelander with her family as a child and attended schools here, graduating from the Rhinelander High School in 1972. She married Larry Bullard on September 7, 1974, and they were blessed with over 50 years of marriage.
She was raised by two extraordinary parents who instilled in her a deep dedication to family — a value she carried throughout her life and passed on to her own children. While attending middle school in Rhinelander, she met her lifelong best friend Chris Bourcier.
After she married her high school sweetheart, Larry Bullard, they lived in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Illinois before returning home to Rhinelander.
In her early years, she devoted herself to raising her children, creating a loving and nurturing home that served as the heart of the family. She poured her love into every moment.
As her children grew, she began working outside her home. Starting at Woolworth's and later at Allen-Bradley, both places that eventually closed their doors. She then worked at Ministry Medical Center. Along the way, she formed many close and lasting friendships with coworkers, one of which was Peggy Tattersall. She met Peggy while working at Woolworth’s, and their bond continued to grow as they worked together at both Allen-Bradley and Ministry. These relationships remained a treasured part of her life. In 2010, she retired early to fully embrace her most cherished role of all: being a grandmother. Her grandchildren were the light of her life.
Family was everything to her. She cherished time with her family whether it was frequent get-togethers, traveling, or celebrating the holidays, she made every moment special. Her love for fall and Christmas showed in every detail — from the decorations to the food and traditions — reflecting the joy she brought to the seasons. Those times will never feel the same without her.
In her final months, she fought so hard to stay with us. We are deeply grateful for the love she received at Aspirus — both the Rhinelander and Tomahawk hospitals. A special thank you to Chaplain John Uhlarik who visited with Sue and Larry weekly. His support was a source of peace, and he was with us in her final moments providing comfort.
Sue is survived by her husband Larry, her daughters Deanna Olds and Stacie Bullard, her son Anthony Bullard, her grandchildren Zachary (Brianna) Olds, Andrea (Eric) Grulke, Nathan Olds, Allie Bullard, Riley Bullard, and Samantha Bullard, her nephews, other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters Connie Olson and Denise Olson, and son in law Andy Olds.
Visitation for Sue will be held on Thursday, May 15, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. with memorial services following at 11 a.m., all at the Carlson Funeral Home.
