RHS Sports recap: Thursday, May 8
Softball: Rhinelander 14, Northland Pines 1
The Rhinelander High School softball team picked up its second win in as many days against Northland Pines, defeating the Eagles 14-1 Thursday at Andrea Musson Field.
The Eagles scored one in the top of the first, but it was all Hodags after that. Rhineladner answered with four runs in the bottom of the first, one more in the second, five in the third and four in the fourth.
Kendall Vanney went 3-for-3 at the plate and drove in four runs. Lucy Lindner had a hit and three RBIs while Kalyn Miller had a hit and tow RBIs.
Vanney allowed an unearned run on two hits with six strikeouts over three innings in the win. Nevaeh Anderson pitched the rest of the way, striking out two.
Rhinelander (5-11, 2-8 Great Northern) will play in the Shawano Invite on Saturday.
Boys’ tennis: Rhinelander 6, Pacelli 1
The Rhinelander High School boys’ tennis team moved into a first-place tie in the Great Northern Conference with a 6-1 win over Pacelli Thursday in Stevens Point.
The Hodags swept singles, with Payton McCue, Karter Massey, Calvin Loomis and Asher Rivord dropping a total of two games between them. Hart Hokens/Van Tulowitzky and Owen Evers/Aidan Lueder won unopposed in doubles.
The No. 1 doubles pair of Michael Schiek and Aiden Ostermann dropped a match tiebreaker to Pacelli’s Marcus Lansing and Hunter Wrezinski 1-6, 6-4, 10-6.
Rhinelander (9-9, 3-0 Great Northern) is now tied with Lakeland on points at the top of the conference, with Medford only two points back. The Hodags will host Medford this coming Tuesday in the final conference dual of the regular season.
