RHS Sports recap: Wednesday, May 7
Softball: Rhinelander 12, Northland Pines 3
The Rhinelander High School softball team picked up its first conference win of the season, defeating Northland Pines 12-3 Wednesday in Eagle River.
Leading 4-3 going into the top of the sixth, the Hodags broke the game open with a seven-run frame keyed by a two-run triple by Kendall Vanney. The Hodags tacked on one more run in the sixth.
Rhinelander led 4-0 after a half inning on a two-run double by Vanney and a two-run single by Cassidy Lindner, but the Eagles got to within a run scoring three times in the third inning.
Vanney finished 2 for 3 with five RBIs at the plate and got the win in the circle, allowing three runs on four this over seven innings with 11 strikeouts.
The Hodags (4-11, 1-8 Great Northern) will face the Eagles again Thursday in Rhinelander.
