Girls’ soccer: Rhinelander 5, Northland Pines 0

The Rhinelander High School girls’ soccer team got goals from five different players Thursday night as it closed out the first half of the Great Northern Conference season unbeaten with a 5-0 victory over Northland Pines at Mike Webster Stadium.

Becca Brost, Vivian Lamers and Kiley Pooch scored for the Hodags in the first half. Lindsey Hoerchler added to the lead in the 43rd minute and Ella Miljevich converted on a penalty kick in the 53rd minute. Sophie Miljevich added a pair of assists.

Shots were 24-7 in favor of the Hodags. Rylee Mickevicius made four saves in the shutout. 

Rhinelander (8-3-0, 5-0-0-0 Great Northern) is idle until May 9 when it takes on Ashland.

Softball: Tomahawk 13, Rhinelander 4

The Rhinelander High School softball team fell to Tomahawk 13-4 on the road Thursday afternoon. Further details were unavailable as of the time of this post. 

Originally scheduled as a doubleheader in Rhinelander, the venue was moved to Tomahawk on a late call, and only one game was played, due to rain and soft field conditions in Rhinelander. 

Rhinelander (2-9, 0-6 Great Northern) will play a doubleheader in Antigo on Tuesday.

Golf: Rhinelander 4th/7, GNC Meet No. 1

The Rhinelander High School golf team shot 346 Thursday and placed fourth in the opening leg of the Great Northern Conference tournament at Indianhead Golf Course in Mosinee. 

None of the Hodags were able to earn conference points by cracking the top 10. Sam Schoppe was closest, placing 12th with an 85. Grant Gremban shot 86, Blake Petroff shot 87, Hank Kowieski shot 88 and Brody Kowieski shot 89.

The second round of the tournament takes place Friday at Ishalla Country Club in Tomahawk.
