Herman passed away peacefully at home on March 21. He was born on June 16, 1934 in Chicago. The son of Herman Sorgatz Sr. and Mina Sorgatz (Kuhpfal). He attended Lake View High school in Chicago. After high school he was drafted into the army. He spent most of his enlistment in Germany because he spoke fluent German. He was an intel specialist in Germany. After the Army he went to Northern Illinois University to study music. While in college he met the love of his life Janet Bartleme. Herman would drive six hours to go on a date with Janet, then drive six hours back to Dekalb. They got married on September 5, 1959. They settled in northern Illinois. After four children, they moved to Rhinelander and Herman took a job as a music teacher there. He taught elementary music at several elementary schools. His most memorable schools were Pine Lake where he would play exit music for the little dears as they made the trek to the buses and McCord. Former students would remember him even years after if they saw him around town. Most times he would remember them and even their nicknames. He also taught high school band in the 80s, and a class affectionately called pop band. He retired in 1995. After retirement he spent time tuning pianos in the area.
He is survived by his children Jeralyn (Sorgatz) and Chip Milliron, Jacqueline (Sorgatz) Falck, Jason and Morgan Falck, great-grandsons Robbie and Jaret. Grandson Kyle Kasten. Theron Sorgatz and Gina Ademino and granddaughter Clara and Teresina. Janine (Sorgatz) Patrick Militzer, as well as other relatives and friends.
Herman was preceded in death by his parents Herman Sr and Mina, a sister Laura and a brother Gunther. His beloved wife of 61 years Janet, and a grandson Wayne Milliron and other relatives.
