Rhinelander District Library adult department: April events

The Rhinelander District Library is proud to partner with Nicolet College and the Friends of the Library to present an author event with Jennifer Chiaverini on Tuesday, April 8, at 6 p.m. in the Nicolet College Theatre. Jennifer Chiaverini, New York Times bestselling author of more than thirty novels, including critically acclaimed historical fiction and the beloved “Elm Creek Quilts” series, presents her new novel, “The World’s Fair Quilt.” Chiaverini was awarded an Outstanding Achievement Award from the Wisconsin Library Association (WLA) for her novel “Resistance Women,” and WLA awarded her the honor of Notable Wisconsin Author for her significant contributions to Wisconsin’s literary heritage. She will be available to answer questions and sign books after the program. Books will be available for purchase at the event from Briar House, a local Rhinelander business.

Thanks to the generous partnership of the Friends of the Rhinelander District Library and Nicolet College, this event is free and open to the public. The event will take place at the Nicolet College Theatre as part of their Nicolet Live! series. The theatre is located in the Lakeside Center at 5364 College Drive, Rhinelander. No tickets are required, and general admission seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Rhinelander District Library’s Seed Library is back, beginning in late March and continuing through the end of May. The library encourages individuals and families to “grow your own.” Any patron with a valid library card may choose up to four vegetable seed packets and one “helper” seed packet for the season. Planting a pollinator helper plant alongside vegetables can help deter pests, attract pollinators like bees and butterflies, increase produce, and support the local ecosystem!

Learn about Diamond Art and create a faux leather corner Mandala bookmark with library staff on Thursday, April 10, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in the library meeting room. All supplies provided. Eleven spaces available. Registration opens on March 27. This is an 18-plus event.

For chess enthusiasts of all ages! Join the monthly, all-ages Chess Club on Saturday, April 12, 10 a.m. to noon in the library meeting room. (Moved to the second Saturday of the month due to the Easter holiday). If you’d like to learn how to play chess, there will be an instructor standing by. Otherwise, join at any time to find a worthy opponent! Chess sets provided.

His words resonate with authenticity and emotion, drawing inspiration from his own life experiences.
