RHS sports recap: Thursday, March 20
Track: RHS girls 2nd/5, boys 3rd/5, Rapids Indoor
A small group of Rhinelander athletes traveled to Wisconsin Rapids Thursday for the Rapids Indoor meet. The Hodags finished second out of five teams on the girls’ side and third on the boys’ side.
The highlight of the meet occurred in girls’ pole vault where freshmen Emeline Hintz and sophomore Macy Myers both broke the school record in the event in a 1-2 finish. Hintz cleared 9 feet, 3 inches while Myers cleared 8-6. The previous record was 8-3.
That was one of three wins for the Hodag girls on the night. Sophomore Kara Monk won the 1,600 meters while Rhinelander took the 4x100 relay with the team of Violet Biolo, Myers, Addison Fish and Wendy Fronk. Biolo also lead a 2-3-4-5 finish for the Hodags in the 55 meters. Olivia Ruetz was second int he 400 and the Hodags took second in the 4x400.
On the boys’ side, senior Logan Schwinger captured the win in the pole vault (43-11 1/2). Matthew Haselton was the runner-up in the 400, Michael Brunette took third in the 1,600 and the Hodags took third in the 4-lap relay.
The Hodags will be back in action this coming Tuesday at the Oredocker Invite in Ashland.
