John H. Hoffman, age 89, of Rhinelander, died on March 8, 2025, at the Howard Young Medical Center, in Woodruff. He was born on July 23, 1935, in Rhinelander, the son of John and Lorna (Genett) Hoffman. He attended schools in Rhinelander graduating from the Rhinelander High School in 1953. He served with the National Guard and then worked as a self-employed Master Plumber until his retirement. Later in life he served the as a Town of Pelican supervisor and as an Oneida County board member for many years.
He married the former Alice Kriesel on Aug. 25, 1956, and God blessed them with over 68 years of marriage. John was a lifelong member of the Zion Evangelical Church and he served the church as a member of the church council and as an usher, among other things, for many years.
John enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, snowmobiling, ATVing and doing puzzles. Most of all he enjoyed the time spent at "The Shack" on the Pelican River.
John is survived by his wife Alice (Kriesel), his daughter Kim (Jim) Kuderski, his grandchildren Jennifer (Timothy) Ditter and Katelyn (Kyle) Evers, his great grandchildren Caden, Kallie and Kason, his half-brother Gordon (Diane) Gilman, other family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Susan, infant grandson Kenneth and his sister Dolores.
Visitation for John will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m., with memorial services following at 11 a.m., on Friday, March 21, 2025, all at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. Reverend Karl Schultz will be officiating. Interment will follow in the Northland Memorial Park Cemetery. The Carlson Funeral Home (715-369-1414) is serving the Hoffman family.
