Boys’ basketball: Rhinelander 43, Rice Lake 42
Devon Feck knocked down a long two-pointer from the top of the key with 2.0 seconds remaining to push the Rhinelander High School boys’ basketball team past Rice Lake 43-42 Friday night in a WIAA regional semifinal game at the Jim Miazga Community Gymnasium.
Feck’s game winner came after Rice Lake’s Will Johnson missed the front end of a 1-and-1 with 12.4 seconds remaining. Zach Orr had a game-high 22 points for the Warriors, including a three-point play to tie it with 1:29 remaining and a 3 that put the Warriors up 42-41 with 50 seconds to play.
Feck had 18 to lead the Hodags, who overcame a 17-12 halftime deficit. Evan Shoeder added eight points and Truman Lamers had seven.
Rhinelander earned the right to host a regional final game against New Richmond. The game has been moved from Saturday night to Monday night by the WIAA to avoid a situation where the Tigers would have played games on three consecutive nights.
The Tigers beat Ashland 76-47 in a regional final game that was postponed from Tuesday night to Thursday due to inclement weather and then upset third-seeded River Falls 67-65 on Friday.
Tip off for Monday’s game is set for 7 p.m., with tickets going on sale at the door at 6 p.m.
A full report will be published in Tuesday’s River News.
