Gymnastics: Rhinelander 5th/7, WIAA Sectionals
The Rhinelander High School gymnastics team closed out its season Saturday with a fifth-place finish in a seven-team WIAA Division 2 sectional in Ashland.
The Hodags scored 119.2 points on the day, their third highest total of the season. The top five and ties in each event qualified for next weekend’s state meet, however the Hodags will not have any representation down in Wisconsin Rapids.
Sophomore Alexis Smith was the closest to qualifying as she finished tied for eighth on vault (8.4), however it took an 8.8 in that event to advance.
Freshman Addison Fish led the Hodags in the all-around, taking 15th with a 29.85. The rest of her Hodag teammates weren’t far behind. Emeline Hintz as 16th (19.675), Smith was 18th (28.95), Wendy Fronk was 19th (28.875) and Sam Aschenbrenner was 20th (28.60).
Fronk had Rhinelander’s best finish on balance beam (12th, 7.925), Smith tied for 17th on floor exercise (8.0) and Fish took 18th on uneven bars (7.0).
